Not only will you be able to backup your saves in case : : your memory card gets corrupted, you will never have to worry about free : : space again. You can have as many VMU saves as your hard drive permits. : : : : The only thing you need besides this program is a serial cable. If you : : don't have one already, you can always order the Coder's Cable from : : Lik-Sang (www.lik-sang.com). : : : +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ : : : How do I use Vorlem? : : -------------------- : : : : First, you must load the Dreamcast binary via the serial cable, or if : : you want, you can burn it to CD and load it that way (there are plenty : : of websites with instructions on how to burn a CD that the DC will read). : : If you use the serial cable, I highly recommend using andrewk's dcload. : : It will compress the binary while loading and also supports 115200 baud : : so the send will go much faster. You can get it at: : : http://www.cerc.utexas.edu/~andrewk/dc/ : : : : After the DC binary is loaded, run VORLEM.EXE. Everything is controlled : : on the DC. The PC program just sits there and waits for commands from : : the DC. : : : : The controls are (the controller can be in any port): : : : : Digital pad - Move around : : A button - Select : : B button - Cancel a menu or go back a screen. : : Y button - When in the file screen, press Y to have the PC send : : a list of saves available to load. You can then select : : which one you want to load or cancel. : : : : Vorlem uses VMS format saves, so you can send VMS files you see on : : websites to your VMU and you can also post your saves backed up : : using Vorlem to those sites. When backing up a save, Vorlem will : : also send the corresponding VMI file. If you want to load a VMS save, : : the VMI file must also be present, since it contains required info. : : So if you download a VMS save, make sure you also get the VMI. Usually : : the links will point to the VMI file. In order to get the VMS file, : : use the same link but replace the .VMI extension with .VMS. Those : : two files almost always have the same base file name. : : : +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ : : : The Config File. : : ---------------- : : : : The PC program when started reads in a configuration file "VORLEM.CFG" : : which must be present in the current directory. This allows you to : : configure the program the way you want. The format is: : : : : option = value : : : : Lines beginning with a ';' are considered comments and are ignored. : : The available options: : : : : "dir" - Specifies a directory where Vorlem should look in for : : saves. It considers any file with an extension of '.VMS' as : : a save file. You can have as many "dir" options as you want, : : you must have at least one though. : : : : Example: "dir = d:\dc\saves" : : : : "savedir" - Specifies the directory where you want Vorlem to write : : saved files to. This is optional, if the option is not : : found, the current directory is used. : : : : Example: "savedir = d:\dc\saves" : : : : "port" - Specifies what COM port you want to use. For the value, : : use COM# where # is the port number. This is optional, : : if it's not found, Vorlem defaults to COM1. : : : : Example: "port = COM2" : : : +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ : : : Bugs / Limitations. : : ------------------- : : : : Since this is the first release of Vorlem, there are some limitations : : which will be fixed in the next or future versions. Some of them : : include: : : : : - Some minor graphical glitches : : - File names limited to 8 characters (will be changed in next release) : : - DCI file support not yet implemented (will be in next release) : : : +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ : : : Extra Info. : : ----------- : : : : This is Obsidian's first DC release! Some people might know us from : : the N64 scene, which we still support. But you can also look forward : : to more DC programs as well. : : : : If you find any bugs or have any comments about this util, you can : : contact me at crowtrobo@hotmail.com. : : : +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ : : : http://go.to/obsidian/ - obs@startrekmail.com : : : +---------------------+---------------+---------------+-----------------------+ : ______ : Obsidian Team : Department : : : \_ | +---------------+---------------+ /\ -poyZ/99: :___________| |___ : WT_Riker : Coding : ________/ \_________ \ _ _ | _ \: JL_Picard : Coding :.--\_ _/ \ _ / :\/ / | / : Refried : Coding : _ | \ \ \/: :/__________|________/: CrowTRobo : Coding :_________|_____\______\: `---------------------+---------------+---------------+-----------------------'
